501 Data Solutions is a technology consulting firm with a passion for serving the nonprofit sector. We help organizations achieve data integrity, build trust within their organization and create opportunities for greater engagement with their supporters. Our team comes with decades of experience working inside and in support of nonprofits. We marry the perspectives that come from seeing how organizations work from the inside with the wider perspective that an outside consultant can bring to a challenge.
About 501 Data Solutions
We begin our work with clear business outcomes in mind.
ROI improvement: We understand that improving and tightening existing processes can often be as impactful as creating new programs. 501 will help you remove the barriers to identifying your most profitable audience segments through smart data clean-up and identity resolution strategies that help you make the most out of your file and connect with audiences who value your mission.
Greater efficiency and more accurate reporting: 501 helps you create more confidence in your querying and analysis processes, giving you more time back in the day to focus on the strategic decisions that matter. Our goal is to take the stress out of data management, knowing that your organization can trust the information that’s informing your reporting and modeling. This builds the kind of trust internally that reaps benefits across the entire ecosystem of your organization.
Expanded mission engagement: We’ll help you identify the root causes of bad data, maximize the available audience for your campaigns, and improve constituent experience so you know with clarity what the path to improvement looks like – you’ll be able to see potential solutions where you previously couldn’t.

Our Team’s Expertise

Michael brings decades of experience working with some of the world’s most notable nonprofits – like Doctors Without Borders (MSF), the American Diabetes Association, The Nature Conservancy, the U.S. Olympic Committee and Paralyzed Veterans of America – from the agency, technology provider and in-house leadership vantage points.
Michael got his start in data management as an account manager at a direct mail and response management agency focused on support for technology companies. From there, he transitioned to Target Software, where he held progressively responsible roles in support of fundraising metrics, ultimately leading a team of twelve as Director of Production Services. Michael’s data hygiene, enrichment, and segmentation work resulted in streamlined processes to eliminate stagnant audience segments and increase organizational efficiency across the sector. Following Target, he went on to spend 12 years at the Alzheimer’s Association National Office as the senior director of business intelligence and system integration. There, he led a team of twenty-two IT professionals to achieve multi-million dollar revenue increases as a result of his innovative approach to lapsed donor reactivation through data hygiene practices. Michael’s team implemented some of the earliest automated processes to expand the organization’s capacities, re-wrote reporting for planned giving and major gifts officers to give them the tools they needed, and reconfigured source codes and reporting for direct response teams so they could optimize donor outreach in real time.
Michael’s strategic guidance is informed by each of these unique purviews. He founded 501 Data Solutions in 2019 to ensure organizations of any size could benefit from his pioneering approach to data reinvigoration in support of fundraising and mission growth.
Originally from Massachusetts, Michael is a passionate animal and children’s rights advocate. He sits on the board of the Perpetual Care animal rescue organization. He’s also a guardian ad litem - a court-appointed advocate for kids in challenging custody situations. Michael is their trusted confidante to listen to their needs and make recommendations about their best interests. He lives in Florida with his wife and their two dogs.
